I have a question for you about the COS H1
As far as the device is interesting in sound compared to the same iFi iCan Pro or any other amplifier – DAC that you have heard before?!?
COS H1 vs iFi iCan Pro
I honestly can’t say as I haven’t had a chance to compare these two (H1 vs iCAN Pro). Besides, one is a DAC/amp combo, whereas the other is an amp of a very interesting tubes+transistors circuitry, therefore these machines are rather incomparable head to head.
My advice is this: if you are equipped with a DAC already, iFi Pro amplifier is exceptionally versatile and very good in general. It’s sound signature can be morphed via one dandy knob on its front. Yet if you’d like to have one box solution for your headphones, COS H1 is among the best decks known to me.
Boenicke W8. Just wondering if or when a review for these speakers may be coming?
Yes, it’s in the pipeline. Hopefully this month it’ll be published.
I enjoyed reading your above review. I was basically interested to read a review with both positives and the negatives. I like warm, easy and true sounds and I liked what was in the review . I have a Chord Mojo and have ordered Lotoo Paw 5000 on Amazon. I intend to connect both taking the Mojo output to my Sennheiser HD 650. I am thinking the Mojo may brighten up the sound and hoping it will still be true and warm. I would like some advice on the set up – does it work well or better -and the cables to be used as I am not a techie. Thank you and regards.
I can’t predict the outcome soundwise as I’m not familiar with Mojo. I’ve been told a while ago that said device tends to make the sound somewhat brighter. My guess is that its contribution to the outcome will be major once it’s connected with PAW 5000 via coaxial cable. In such scenario, said DAP will handle “only” storage/interface duties. All you need is a 3,5 mm to 3,5 mm short cable and you’re good to go.
Now it’s up to you to find out whether my forecast is correct : )
thank you very much for the nice review of SuperComputer. It is always a pleasure to read your reviews! But after reading the SuperComputer review I had to share with you my thoughts end experience. I’ll be brief, I promise ;). Here is my setup from source to speakers :
– HDPlex passive cooled Intel i7, Supermicro Motherboard, SSD, HDPlex linear powers supply. no special USB card. Comparing to standard laptop this PC was a great upgrade, maybe mostly because of the linear power supply.
– UpTone Audio Regen – again big improvement in clarity, air, background and space.
– DYI USB cable from Lampizator dealer
– Lampizator Big7 with gigawatt LC-2 power cable
– simple RCA cable – to replace with XLR cable. Please could you recommend any cables for DIY XLR?
– active speakers Avantgarde Acoustic Solo
– power: Gigawatt LC-Y power cable to Gigawatt PF-2 and to the Solos
I can say that I’ve observed great improvement when installing the Win Server 2012 optimized Audio PC with linear power supply. But the characteristics changes you describe in your review were very similar to my experience when I replaced the Foobar with HQPlayer. Material used is mostly PCM upsampled to DSD128. There is a huge difference how the upsampling is performed within the 2 software and fit the description you pictured when comparing the SuperComputer with your laptop. The change in sound was quiet surprising for me, please try to audition these 2 SW on the same computer. They just do the same (upsampling) by totaly differnet way. There is also lot of parameters which can be adjusted in HQPlayer to the listeners taste. Please give it a try ;).
Thank you and I am looking forward to your future reviews!
Thank you for your feedback. I’m aware that said software’s upsampling algorithms are far more adjustable and soundwise better than the same function in Foobar2000. But in my listening place I don’t have a machine decent enough to handle upsampling via HQplayer, I’ve mentioned that in my review. What I currently possess will have to do the trick for now.
At some point, transport changes will be made on my end. But that’s not on the priority list, not after finding out what my current laptop’s input is. It fits where it needs to fit : )
As for cables, my experience with these items is rather limited. I’d strongly suggest to ask the other knight – Marek. And to answer yourself in what way these should contribute to the outcome. That’s what I’d do in the first place.
I live in Switzerland (Morges). Where can I listen and eventually buy the Gradient 6.0? Thanks.
I have no idea. This question should be directed to Gradient.
I was just checking out your site today and my compliments for your reviews and also really wonderful pictures! Very good composition and light really excellent. I have tried to make some equipment pictures during the years so I understand how difficult it is. But also your use of English, almost as if you are a native English speaker!
My sincere compliments,
Kind words are much appreciated, Rients. Thank you! I’m quite happy about the pictures, though there is a room for improvement regarding the language and over time both me and Marek will be better at this English HFK thing we’re doing.
I look forward to reading more of your thoughts and reviews. I have book marked your site and will be checking in with regularity!
I live in the US, and while having access to a lot of great music and equipment, I have enjoyed reading 6-Moons on a regular basis due to many unique and sometimes unobtainable gear from other parts of the globe. Looking forward to more of this from your site!
This past summer I had the good fortune to listen to a Polish integrated from Encore-7, the Eggshell 15 wpc, EL 34 based model. It was quite the revelation for me, seeing as I have used mostly higher powered solid state amplifiers in my system over the years!
Again, congrats, and I wish you both the best as you continue on!
Your support is much appreciated, Tim. Thank you. It appears that both of us enjoy 6moons.com for the same reason (one of many I presume), unknown product findings that is. That’s how I got my hands on FirstWatt F7, Boenicke Audio W5 and some other things. As for Eggshell, I’m quite familiar with the brand yet never had a chance to have a listen to it within my own four walls. Maybe it’s high time to get in touch with Encore-7 folks. Who knows? Maybe something will happen? And again, thank you for your words of encouragement.
Very good Dawid! Yes, I certainly would recommend taking a listen to the Eggshell amps in your own listening room/home if possible. The folks at Encore have been great to talk to, and fortunately they had a contact here in the US that was able to get me a Prestige 15WS model to listen to in my own system for a bit.
I enjoyed every minute of my time with it, the design is refreshing and unique, maybe slightly quirky in some ways, but a good quirky! The main thing though was the music this amplifier made. Extremely enjoyable! Highly recommended if you get the opportunity. I certainly hope that Encore can get a US distributor on board, it would be a shame not to!
Again, congratulations on your efforts, I will be watching and reading with regularity! Take care!
